Nutrient Solution Cycle for Marijuana

Ideally, the timer which pumps the nutrient solution should turn on, and the solution should submerge the plant roots about every 20 minutes. As soon as the roots get submerged, the pump shuts down. If it takes longer than 20 minutes for the roots to get water, the roots tend to grow longer, from seeking for the nutrient source and they might grow so long and thick that they will prevent the nutrient solution from reaching up to the grow cups. This phenomenon raises the chances of root material being ripped out and clogging the system. In the occasion that the flow is obstructed by root or other materials inside, you will have to separate the garden and clean it.

It’s important to check the length of the plant root every few weeks, and one way to know when the roots are too long is if it’s difficult to remove the cups the plants are attached to because the roots are connected to the internal channel. Ideally the roots should be short enough to at least just be above the narrow point where the solution enters the cup holder. If you observe the roots are too long, trim them down with scissors. When trimming you would have to be sure you are not going too far.

You can use the old solution that you’re discarding to water house or garden plants. This step at least doubles the growth rate if otherwise, you watered your plants with tap water.  You might as well take advantage of the nutrient solution as an ultimate way to recycle.

When setting up the solution for your Hydroponic project, don’t forget to plan ahead and let the tap water sit for about three days.  You may think it’s a bit silly, but it really does make a difference.  You want a jug big enough for your project too, so why not grab this no-spill jug!
